  36. 1. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS FOR RUNNING CDfactory

  38. MINIMUM configuration is:

  40. 386 SX/25 or higher microprocessor
  41. 8MB of RA
  42. MPC-compatible CD-ROM drive
  43. MPC-compatible sound card
  44. 640x480x256 color monitor and adapter
  45. Microsoft Windows 3.1 or later
  46. MS-DOS 5.0 or higher
  47. Mouse
  48. QuickTime for Windows 2.0 (it's included on this CD)
  49. Hard disk with 1.5MB's of free space
  50.

  52. RECOMMENDED configuration is:

  54. 486 or Pentium computer
  55. 8MB RAM or higher (highly recommended
  56. Double-Speed MPC Level 2-compatible CD-ROM drive
  57. Hard Disk with 1.5MB of free space for installing the

  64. CDfactory requires QuickTime for Windows 2.0 to
  65. operate. This is included on the disc. In File Manager
  66. open the CD go into "QT INSTALL" folder, and double click
  67. on SETUP.EXE and follow instructions on the screen. Allow
  68. installer to remove old and duplicate versions from your
  69. hard drive of Quicktime.

  71. NOTE: BE SURE YOU ARCHIVE ANY OLDER VERSIONS OF QUICKTIME
  72. BEFORE RUNNING SETUP.EXE--IT WILL DELETE ANY OLDER
  73. VERSIONS OF QUICKTIME CURRENTLY INSTALLED.

  78. NOTE: CDfactory may not operate properly if another
  79. (older) version of QuickTime is installed on your drive.
  80. For best results, remove other versions that you may have
  81. and use Version 2.0 supplied.

  85. README document for further help.

  88. 4. RUNNING CDfactory
  89. =============================================================

  91. Very Important: Be sure that your monitor is set to
  92. 640x480, 256-color mode.  CDfactory will not operate in a
  93. reliable fashion in other resolutions.
  94.  
  95. Use File Manager to double-click on the name of the
  96. run-time player for the demo you want to see.

  99. 6. TROUBLE SHOOTING

  102. POOR PERFORMANCE:  
  103. 1) If you get a message stating that "the projector's
  104. name" has used all of Windows' available memory or if
  105. sounds are dropping out and Quicktime movies are
  106. skipping, follow these steps.

  109. To change the size of your swap file:
  110.  
  111. A. In the Main group, choose the Control Panel icon.
  112. B. In the Control Panel window, choose the 386 Enhanced
  113.    icon.
  114. C. In the 386 Enhanced dialog box, choose the Virtual
  115.    Memory button. The Virtual Memory dialog box appears.
  116. D. Choose the Change button.
  117.    The Virtual Memory dialog box expands.
  118. E. From the Drive list, select the drive where you want
  119.    the swap file to be located. for example, if you have
  120.    a second hard disk drive that has more space, you could
  121.    select its drive letter. Usually you will use drive C:
  122. F. From the Type list, select the type of swap file you
  123.    want to use. The easiest is a temporary swap file.
  124. G. In the New Size box, icrease the size in kilobytes
  125.    of the swap file. Do not allocate more than the 
  126.    recommended maximun size.
  127. H. Choose the OK button.
  128.    After you make changes in the Virtual Memory dialog box
  129.    and choose the OK button, a dialog box appears telling
  130.    you to restart Windows so that your changes will take
  131.    effect.
  132. I. Choose the Restart button. Do not press CRTL+ALT+DEL.
  133.    For help with the Virtual Memory dialog box, choose
  134.    the Help button or press F1 while using the dialog box.

  139. 2) Programs running in the background will greatly hurt
  140.    performance.  Quit all other programs when running
  141.    CDfactory, including network software.
  142.  
  143. 3) If you have a single-speed CD-ROM drive, expect some 
  144.    delays as compared 
  145.    to a double-speed system.
  146.  
  147. 4) Screen Savers: If a screen saver kicks in during use of
  148.    CDfactory, the program will operate unreliably
  149.    (some images may be obscured and it may crash.)  
  150.    Screen savers may kick in after their allotted period
  151.    of inactivity even if movies and animations have been
  152.    playing on the screen during this period. It's best 
  153.    to turn off screen savers temporarily. 
  154.  
  155. 5) If you're prone to hyper-clicking: You won't need it 
  156.    in this program. If something on the screen is not
  157.    responding to your mouse click, clicking 50 more times
  158.    won't help. Hammering your mouse button will only kill
  159.    off that mouse early and might crash CDfactory.

  161. 6) Make sure that Quicktime 2.0 is installed.
